In small villages in Sweden, sometimes the post office is actually located inside the mailman’s home, thereby blending the public and private spheres. The photograph depicts an intimate setting with a typically Nordic atmosphere: a lamp set on a piece of wooden furniture, two small ceiling lamps, a candle, some flowers, a picture and small mementos. The window breaks up the geometric repetition of the wallpaper, but its visual connects seamlessly with the hushed and peaceful aura of the Swedish countryside.
Edoardo Miola has always cultivated a passion for travel. After touring Europe, he went to Asia, visited Iran and Afghanistan, got to know North Africa, the Arab countries and Indochina, and was enchanted by Australia. Every trip is an opportunity for sophisticated photographic documentation of the landscapes and populations that animate the world. He first exhibited his photographs in 2011, in Sweden, at Galleri 1 in Skelleftea. In 2012 at the Palazzo Rosso (Genoa) Miola exhibited – and curated – Deja Vu – Soi Cowboy, a series of photographs inspired by his trip to Bangkok with his teachers, Steve McCurry and Mike Yamashita. The exhibition was then proposed in the spaces of the Paola Meliga art gallery in Turin, which in 2014 also hosted his solo show Petit Royaume: Mustang Nepal Fotografie di un viaggio d’autore in piccolo formato. In 2013 he won second prize for Communication Photography in the Nikon Photo Contest 2012–2013. That year, he also participated with the Satura Art Gallery at the International Furniture and Design Fair in Milan. In 2015 he participated in MIA – Milan Image Art Fair with a personal stand and won the “My LifeStyle” award. In his past work as an architect Miola focused on creating and producing prototypes and design objects, collaborating with the best-known architects on the international scene. He currently lives between Italy, Sweden and South Africa.
