The characteristic nature of this image is given by the presence of numerous contrasts, opposites which coexist and complement each other. In Siena the majesty of history, which is encapsulated in the solid columns framing the present, is brought back to life, and so is the present enclosed in the clothes hung, in the man at the window collecting the laundry, in the windows disposed in order and adorned with flowers and plants. The simple gestures of the man do not conflict with the value of the past.  
Ivano Mercanzin began his artistic career in 2011 and he was immediately captured by the new world of photography. Light and shades are the focus of our artist, who decided to direct his attention towards the technique of white and black in order to narrate stories of different kind. On the one hand, we find his narration of the countryside around Vicenza and of his villages, a reflection of simple emotions, but at the same time authentic and fundamental, for Mercazin, who was born in this area. Terramadre (Motherland), Notturno Vicentino (Night around Vicenza) and Le vite degli altri (The lives of others) convey the memory of his past, which the artist keeps as something unforgettable, just as an old family photo. However, the spectator has also the opportunity to observe the reality of a great city such as New York City, a more complex and large world, whose human and linear profile the artist was able to encapsulate in the series Subwayand Faces of NYC. In the quick movement of the subway it is easy to find Mercanzin’s artistic aim. As a matter of fact, he wants to follow traces of life, portray a choice in the face of the passengers who become a picture in the picture by means of their gestures and the fine use of black and white: the complexity of simple things, such as a young woman crossing quickly a bridge in Venice, but also the peace of an old man resting on a bench. Critics and painters understood the profoundness of this artist so that they helped him to organize personal exhibitions and to participate in collective ones. In 2013 he was at the Art Caffè Letterario in Rome, in 2015 at the Punto Ottico Human eyes of New York and 2016 was the year of his exhibit Eurasia in Bangkok.
