Rosetta Bonatti’s aesthetic research is characterized by a strong architectural outlook, which brings her to make her own all those geometries that she experiences every day in the modern urban environment: details, shapes, colors and symmetries are the fundamental elements of her artistic poetics. The leitmotiv of this photo series is a spiral staircase that smoothly opens out at the centre of each shot. This is something that is seemingly ordinary, but that has also characterized the history of architecture, especially the contemporary one. From Le Corbusier to Frank Lloyd Wright, from Vladimir Tatlin to Giannino Castiglioni, the spiral played a major role in their expressive poetics, as an element of great modernity that has nonetheless deep roots in the ancient world. Although coming from different architectural expriences, Bonatti creates images that have a perfect balance, as they entail full and empty spaces, tridimensionality and bi-dimensionality, color contrasts and games of light. The helicoidal movement lends harmony to the variety of elements comprised in every composition, conveying a sense of lightness and driving the observer’s eye gaze upwards.
Rosetta Bonatti once completed her high school studies in Cremona, attended an artistic training to become a softwaredeveloper, choice dictated by her strong passion for photography, crafts that overlap in the common ground of graphic harmony interest. The artist describes her own artistic project as instinctive, guided to its realisation by the eye: subjects of her photographs are urban environments, with scents of concrete and of unavoidable human presence. Rosetta Bonatti pursues her profession and at the same time elaborates a personal photographic technique during her numerous journey in Italy and abroad: Lisbona, Roma, Copenhagen are portrayed according to geometries and combinations that are evidently well planned, without losing, however, their characteristic spontaneity. The artist’s vast studies and her great experience resulted in her appointment as finalist at the SIPA contest in 2016, along side being awarded the first prize with Vivere con lentezza in 2015. Several shots were chosen and used by various foreign publishers in the covers of novels and books, among them Le Juge ti prend son luth, Rivages editions; Spanisch, Langenscheidt editions; she also edited the cover of the Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra CD.
