Pagratis Pagratidis take the observers on a metropolitan journey, which unravels through the colour spectrum of black and white. The attention is drawn to details that are symbolic and easily recognisable but that are captured from an unusual, introspective point of view. Within the urban environment, the photographer finds a new conceptual and emotional dimension that he conveys by focusing on both his technique and the subjects’ own expressivity. The city landscape is represented through a rich articulation of the many shades that characterise it; buildings, museum, bridges, roofs and cars are all fundamental pieces of this personal narration. Each detail is immortalised, deconstructed and conveyed to the viewers through a plain and effective language, characterised by strong contrasts of light and well-studied angles and perspectives. Thanks to this technique, the photographer can highlight the material shape of each detail of his compositions, which stand out against the background. Confusion and noise, typical features of every city, are missing from these shots. Instead, there are silent and solemn meditations on the architectural elements that the photographer faces and challenges during his explorations of the urban landscape.
