Paolo Vergnano approaches photography with a love for the animal world, in keeping with his educational background: he is a biologist specializing in food and environmental microbiology. Biology and a love of nature distinguish his artistic research, expressed for the first time with the Stanze series. In 2012 he exhibited at the Oasis Photo Contest, the International Prize for Nature Photography organized by the magazine Oasis. In 2014 he played a key role on the art scenes of Turin and Milan. In Turin Vergnano exhibited as part of the Photissima Prize and participated in the Others Art Fair Torino with the Paola Sosio Contemporary gallery; in Milan he took part in the Premio Arte 2014, exhibiting in the spaces of the Palazzo della Permanente and contributing to the auction organized by Christie’s at the GAM for the non-profit Comunità Nuova. That year he also participated in the 4th Rassegna di Arte Contemporanea, curated by Daniel Buso in the historic palace of Ca’ dei Carraresi (Treviso). Also in 2014, Vergnano was chosen by Patrizia Bottallo to participate in the collective exhibition Temporary Show IV, held at the Scrigno dell’arte in Monchiero (Cuneo). In 2015, Vergnano was acknowledged in the Top 40 of the Sony World Photography Awards, and with a photograph from the Stanze series he won the first edition of the Visions Collection, a competition organized by the Malamegi Lab Art Foundation.
